For the past few years, our family has made a tradition of celebrating the start of October by visiting a corn maze. We usually drive down to Long and Scott Farms down in Zellwood, but we recently discovered there’s a small farm here in DeLand that does their own corn maze, so we decided to give it a whirl!
Heritage Farms might be small in size, but it was full of charm. It is the perfect place to spend a few hours of old-fashioned family fun without the crowds that we’ve encountered at Long and Scott or Santa’s Christmas Tree Forest. They’re open until 10pm on the weekends, so we might go back with flashlights and run the maze again.
We picked up a chicken, some local honey, pickles, produce, and a homemade candle, then went home and used the fresh ingredients to cook up a farm-to-table dinner!
As I write this, Hurricane Matthew is just offshore, and I pray that all the farms in our area make it through the storm without sustaining too much damage. If all goes well, I’d highly recommend that DeLand locals spend some time this season at Heritage Farms, or Vo-LaSalle Farms in DeLeon Springs once their weekend Farm Days begin on October 14th.
